Cookie & Tracking Technologies Notice

This page describes the cookies and similar technologies DEFENSMART uses today. It is not a generic list. A cookie is a small file a site stores on your browser. Browser storage is similar information kept in the browser for this site.

DEFENSMART uses strictly necessary cookies and storage to sign people in, protect the site, and remember the privacy choice on this browser. Optional analytics, advertising, and extra preference technologies stay off until you allow that category.

Categories

Strictly necessary. Always on. These cover sign-in, security, the saved privacy choice, and the functions required to submit an inquiry or operate an attorney account. Stripe is used only when an attorney starts a payment.

Analytics. Optional, and off until you allow it. This would cover measurement tools that are not required to run the site. None are installed today.

Advertising and marketing. Optional, and off until you allow it. This would cover advertising pixels, retargeting, and conversion tags. None are installed today. They may be added later only behind this category.

Functional preferences. Optional, and off until you allow it. This is for convenience choices that are not required to use the site. Advertising and analytics tools are not placed in this category.

What is in use now

  • Sign-in session (Strictly necessary). Cookie `__Host-grok-auth.session_token`. Keeps an attorney or administrator signed in on this site.
  • Session cache (Strictly necessary). Cookie `__Host-grok-auth.session_data`. Short-lived signed cache so the site can read the session without an extra database lookup.
  • Account cache and remember flag (Strictly necessary). Cookies `__Host-grok-auth.account_data` and `__Host-grok-auth.dont_remember`. Authentication bookkeeping used by the sign-in system.
  • Embedded sign-in marker (Strictly necessary). Cookie `__Host-grok_gate_session`. Tells the site that this browser signed in through the embedded preview identity, so sign-out is not offered for a session the host will recreate.
  • Preview sign-in token (Strictly necessary). sessionStorage `grok-auth.bearer-token`. Used only in the live preview, where third-party cookies are partitioned. Holds the session token for that tab. It is not an advertising identifier.
  • Privacy choice (Strictly necessary). Cookie and localStorage `ds_privacy`. Remembers this browser's cookie categories, the consent version, and the time of the choice. It does not store a name, email, or account id.
  • Banner closed this tab (Strictly necessary). sessionStorage `ds_privacy_dismissed`. Hides the banner for this tab after Close. It is not a grant of optional cookies. A new visit with no saved choice shows the banner again.
  • Google Fonts (Presentation). Request to fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. Loads the Plus Jakarta Sans typeface used by the site. This is not an analytics or advertising pixel. The browser does contact Google to fetch the font files.

No analytics scripts, advertising pixels, retargeting tags, or other optional tracking technologies are deployed on DEFENSMART today.

Services that are not website trackers

  • Stripe. Server calls to api.stripe.com, and a redirect to Stripe Checkout when an attorney starts a payment. Billing and payment for an attorney who requests it. Stripe is not loaded as a sitewide script, pixel, or advertising tag.
  • Twilio. Server-side SMS delivery. Twilio is retained for historical SMS records and is not used to send text alerts. It is not a website advertising pixel.
  • Resend. Server-side email delivery. Operational email such as invitations and account messages. Resend is not a website cookie or advertising pixel.
  • Inquiry attribution. Stored on the inquiry only if the person submits one. The inquiry may keep the page address, a vanity link code, the referrer, and ordinary utm parameters. That record does not choose or rank an attorney and is not a third-party advertising cookie.
  • Operator reports. Admin console, from records DEFENSMART already keeps to run the service. First-party counts of inquiries, membership, and billing for the operator. This is not a visitor analytics script and not an advertising pixel.

Your choice

Use Accept all, Reject non-essential, or Manage preferences on the banner. Cookie Preferences in the footer opens the same choices later. Closing the banner, scrolling, or continuing to browse does not turn optional categories on. If you turn a category off, DEFENSMART will not start that category's optional technologies afterward. Where DEFENSMART set a cookie only for that category, it will delete that cookie. This does not delete information a third party already received.

Global Privacy Control

If your browser sends Global Privacy Control (`navigator.globalPrivacyControl`), DEFENSMART treats that as an opt-out of sale or sharing and of targeted advertising. Advertising and marketing stays off, even if an older saved choice had allowed it, unless you later explicitly allow that category. Global Privacy Control does not turn off strictly necessary cookies, and it does not by itself change analytics or functional preferences. The preference center shows the effective advertising setting. Other legally recognized opt-out signals can be added later in the same place.
